About the event

Applique is a great way to drastically change the look of a piece of clothing or other textile item with simple hand-cut and stitched shapes. This type of embellishment, known as Needle Turn Applique, can be used for purely decorative purposes, or as a functional addition to cover up stains, snags and holes. Whatever the approach, applying applique will give a new chapter to tired pieces in need of a bit of TLC to bring them back into regular use!

You’ll learn how to use a template to cut out a shape of your choosing, position the shape onto your textile and hand-stitch, using a combination of finger pressing and fabric manipulation with the edge of your needle to tuck under the raw edge as you sew. This is a slightly fiddly process at first, so some hand-sewing experience is definitely beneficial. But it just takes a bit of getting used to, and then you’ll be speedily sewing up shapes in no time!

You’ll need: A piece of clothing (or other textile) you’d like to re-fashion (or we can supply a small piece of fabric if you don’t have something to bring, which could be turned into a patch)

Materials included: scrap fabrics, scissors, needles, thread, thimbles, fabric pens and paper templates

Health & Safety: during the workshop everyone will have their own materials and tools. Sanitiser and disinfectant will be available. If you feel unwell please let us know and stay home. We’d ask people to wear face masks unless medically exempt.  The workshop is on the top floor of the Fair Trader up a flight of stairs, which isn't accessible to wheelchair uses unfortunately.

Course conditions: the workshop needs minimum numbers to run. In the unlikely event it doesn't meet this the workshop will be cancelled. Your booking is secured by payment and if you choose to cancel you get a refund up to 7 days before the event however after that no refund can be given.

Tickets: £25. You can book tickets here.
