GET INVOLVED
We are always keen to hear from individuals who would be interested in helping out at our Textiles Community Hub in central Huddersfield. The Hub contains a textile Scrap Store, retailing a range of second-hand fabric & haberdashery, alongside products from our Circular Textiles range - such as our t-shirt yarn. We also host monthly Stitch Socials and facilitate a broad range of creative workshops in the space.
Your help, input and ideas would be greatly appreciated to help us maintain this space for the local textiles community and your time will enable us to stay open between 10.30am - 3.30pm, Thursday - Saturday each week.
As a Thread Republic Volunteer, activities during an average shift might include -

Customer service - chatting to visitors, answering questions, taking workshop bookings etc

Helping out with workshop prep - putting together resources and materials to set up for an upcoming class

Retail - cutting & folding lengths of fabric from the scrap store, processing sales through our POS system

Engaging visitors with the topic of sustainable fashion/textiles

Sorting donations for the Textile Scrap Store and stock-keeping - this might involve categorising items, pricing, merchandising etc

General housekeeping - helping us keep the shop and store-room clean, neat and tidy

Winding our t-shirt yarn into balls to sell in the shop

Creating textile samples to display in the shop window or around the space
Full training will be provided and a member of the Thread Republic team or a long-term volunteer would always also be present during any shifts. There is no expectation for regular weekly shifts and we can be very flexible in order to suit your availability.
