Its importance is not to be underestimated. The value in the community of what these people are doing is far reaching. If i wanted to describe thread Republic... i would say that you need to look deeper than just the textile sustainability aspect of their aims... as their work reaches a much more connective level with the community. Thread Republic are making a difference."

Thread Republic CIC is the only textiles reuse and skills hub on the high street in England.
They are based on the Piazza in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, building on Huddersfield’s international reputation as a textile town of excellence.
Thread Republic brings together circular economy, community and creativity to empower and inspire customers with an approach to textiles and fashion that values longevity. They offer:

Sustainable and affordable access to materials:
The shop only sells fabric and haberdashery that has been donated by industry partners and Kirklees residents. This keeps prices low (e.g all fabrics are £2 per meter) for our customer base within Kirklees and beyond.
Textile Skills workshop programme:
Providing work opportunities for local workshop tutors to develop freelance skills and engage new audiences, whilst ensuring participants can access a variety of textile skills, from making and mending clothing to creating other textile items using crochet and patchwork.
Diverse stakeholder network:
Customers, volunteers, fabric donors, workshop practitioners and event participants are represented from all ages, cultures, religions, abilities, politics and genders. We are an inclusive and welcoming space celebrating the ways textile stories and skills can bring people together.
Empowering residents:
Challenges faced by many include the cost of living, the climate crisis and wellbeing. Our stakeholders tell us that the making and mending of textiles helps them to cope with some of these issues.
