About the event
Take fashion into your own hands in this knitwear upcycling workshop with textile artist Jas Lewis Henman. Using needle felting, you’ll learn how to artfully mend your old knitwear, turning it into a unique work of wearable art. With Jas, you’ll create a design, trace it, needle felt it into your knitwear and wet felt it for durability. The result is a cosy, artfully decorated knit that expresses your unique personality!
Participants must bring their own knitwear to upcycle - the chunkier the better! Real wool isn't essential but does work better than synthetics.
Please note that this workshop includes repetitive hand activity and may be challenging for people with hand-related disabilities.
About Jas Lewis Henman:
Jas Lewis Henman (b. 1997) is a textile artist and illustrator based in Leeds, UK. As well as creating sculptural art, they spend their time needle felting preloved knitwear into wearable art. Their work explores folklore and spirituality, combining depictions of plants, vegetables, and folk creatures with visceral self-portraits depicting complex mental health. By contrasting simplistic forms against detailed facial features, Lewis Henman creates a unique visual language centred around emotions, nature and sustainability.
