Manx Log Cabin Workshop

In this relaxed workshop you'll learn all the skills you need to create this unique quilt block based on traditional techniques from the Isle of Man. 

Unlike other quilting methods, Manx quilting is constructed with only two layers of fabric, using folds to create thickness and warmth. Traditionally no rulers were used - instead quilters use their hands to gauge the different measurements needed, meaning that every quilt is unique to its creator!

This method is rooted in making the most of limited supplies. We'll mirror this sustainable practice by using cotton scraps, reclaimed clothing and recycled fabrics to create our blocks. Participants may wish to bring their own fabric or scraps to use, but this is not required.

Tutor: Kim Pemberton

Skill level: Adventurous Beginner (some basic hand sewing skills are needed)

Materials: Equipment and recycled fabrics will be provided. Participants may wish to bring their own fabrics if they prefer a less scrappy look, however this is completely optional.

Please note: As this is a hand-sewing project, it may not be possible to fully complete your block in the session, but you will leave with all the materials and knowledge needed to finish.

Healthy & Safety: during the workshop everyone  will have their own materials and tools. Sanitiser and disinfectant will  be available. If you feel unwell, please let us know and stay home. The  space has level access. However, the toilet is upstairs.

Course Conditions: the workshop needs minimum  numbers to run. In the unlikely event it doesn't meet this, the workshop will be cancelled and you will receive a refund. Please don’t arrive more than 10 minutes before the workshop starts, unless previously  discussed.

Refund Policy: your booking is secured by payment. If you choose to cancel, we will offer a refund up to 7 days before the event with a £5 admin fee per ticket. However, after that no refund can be given.
