About the event
In this session you will learn how to do the ancient art of Batik. Batik is a textile surface pattern technique that’s existed in many eastern cultures for hundreds of years and creates a distinct and attractive design. Using wax and specially made tools we’ll make patterns on fabric that act as a resist to fabric paint that we’ll apply on top of the wax.
While it's messy, it's a technique that encourages you to embrace the mistakes and incorporate them, ignoring perfection. It's a fluid workshop where we'll build up layers of colour and experiment with colour and texture.
Skill Level: Beginner
You’ll need: Come with ideas of the kinds of pattern you’d like to do, Pinterest board for inspiration here. Batik can be messy, so wear clothes you don't mind getting inky or waxy.
Materials: all materials provided with guided hints, tips and demonstrations throughout the session.
